As the semester eerily passes, I am amazed at how much everyone has accomplished so far. Take a few minutes to look at all you have created and embedded on your blog: surveys, Prezis, newsletters, and all those journal entries! Impressive!
This Week: Creating your PLN and the CSUSM Web 2.0 Tools for Educators Wiki. . .You will be adding people to your PLN and reflecting on some of the process. You will also investigate a web 2.0 tool, create something, and then share your results on your very own wiki page. The PLN assignment will also count as journal 7, so you got that going for you, which is nice!
Journal 7: This will be the Creating Your PLN assignment. The instructions are on this blog (Look at the tabs above!)
I will be catching up on grading this week. If you are behind, please talk to me. If you assignment is not submitted when I grade, there will be a penalty in the points earned. I am flexible, but not ridiculously so. . .
This Week's Question: What is something you have learned well without formal teaching? How did you learn it? This could be a sport, hobby, musical instrument, etc. .
I learned how to play texas holdem well without anyone teaching me how to play. I started having $10 buy-in home games with friends and family which was a good way to learn. Some poker lessons were cheaper than others!
ReplyDeleteI learned how to dance when I was really young, I didn't have formal training until years after.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to play chess by watching my sister and dad play. I am not as good as they are but I can play with others.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to play field hockey and soccer without formal teaching.. then when I realized I enjoyed it and wanted to become more serious I started playing competatively. :)I learned it by watching others play and just messing around with the ball.
ReplyDeleteI taught myself how to cross stitch. I know, not very exciting, but I like it. The kits come with instructions so I just followed those and with practice got better at it.
ReplyDeleteWhen I was young, my dad was in the Marines, and was gone a lot, and my mom was working, so I had to teach myself how to ride a bike by myself.
ReplyDeletewalking, I haven't stopped since.
ReplyDeleteyoga, through practice and endurance.
ReplyDeletebasketball, bugging my older cousin and his friends when i was younger sometimes they would let me play and I got pretty ok
ReplyDeletehmmm, this is a hard question. Ironically, probably computers, more specifically my macbook. When I got my macbook I had never used one before and it was a whole new world. I played on it for hours at a time and taught myself how to use it. And once you figure it out you realize how easy it is and how you'll never get a windows operating system again!
ReplyDeleteI learned how play the game of golf by just going out and playing occasionally. I am addicted to the game ever since and cant get enough of it!!!
ReplyDeleteDrive stick shift vehicles. I learn by looking
ReplyDeleteI would have to say shooting the "J" shot around the key in basketball. I would say I learned my jump shot from just watching MJ (Michael Jordan) on the tube.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to play volleyball ambidextrously. I had always known i was right handed then one day i just started trying with my left hand. It ended up being better than my right hand. I ended up going to my first college on a volleyball scholarship as a left-handed player.
ReplyDeleteI learned my way around town, I like to just drive and figure my way out/around
ReplyDeleteHow to drive a stick shift car. No one in my house wanted to teach me because they though I would break the car, but I stole it some nights and taught myself.... and the car never broke down!
ReplyDeleteWhen I was younger I taught myself how to play the piano. I was able to learn because I had previously played the flute, and was familiar with the notes, but it wasn't until later that I took a piano course.
ReplyDeleteFor some reason in high school I all of a sudden decided that I wanted to join the cheer and dance teams (no prior training), did it, loved it, became good at it:)
ReplyDeleteI learned how to ride a bike without the training wheels. I did this by getting on it and not thinking about it too much and pushing myself forward until i was off riding. i fell many times in the beginning but i learned all by myself and i am very proud of it.
ReplyDeleteWhat I have learned is how to have patience! It has been one of the hardest things for me because since I left my home meaning my parents, I have not practiced that quality. Today, I need a lot of patience as a baby-sitter. I still fail a lot of the times with my husband, but I am getting better.
ReplyDeleteI picked up and learned how to play the acoustic guitar. Learned songs by ear and by listening to them over and over. (Lessons were too expensive) Been playing for 5 years.
ReplyDeleteI would have to agree with Kayla, I taught myself how to use different technology, such as programs on computers that deal with photos and computers just in general and other tech gadgets.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to dribble a basketball in a straight line without formal instruction. I did this by using my coordinating skills and concentrated on bouncing the ball without loosing control of it. In addition, I taught myself how to do this when I was in Kindergarten.
ReplyDeleteThis is going to sound lame (since I'm pretty sure there isn't any formal training for it), but I am an excellent lane changer! I pride myself in being able to change lanes without a problem. My favorite 'lane challenge' is dropping someone off at an airport (especially LAX) because you have to force the lane changes to get to the right section of the curb. ...I told you it was lame! :)
ReplyDeleteSomething I've learned without formal teaching is how to fix small glitches on computers, I learned from just watching people work on my computers. Im still learning new things, and just getting a new computer and having people show me stuff on it is also helping me learn more about computers on my own.
ReplyDeleteI learned how to cook without formal teaching just by watching my mom cook.
ReplyDeleteDancing was one of the things I learned without getting the help of a teacher. La quebradita is what I dance the most. I practice with friends and anyone that is interesting in learning.
ReplyDeleteDancing was something I have learned well without formal teaching. I learned to dance just by watching other people do it.
ReplyDeleteI have learned how to drive my dunebuggy places where it has no business going. I have learned this skill by years of following 7-10 motorcycles in the desert. I love it when I impress the guys with what I can do. It's even better when I scare them!:)
ReplyDeleteI got a real one this time, I learned how to kick-flip a stakeboard without formal teaching. It took a lot of time and it was probably the most difficult and frustrating thing I have ever taught myself.
